Intaglio - Photo engraving
Our studio is equipped with everything needed to make soft ground etchings. Photo engravings are great for reproducing photographic imagery. Wether you’re looking for a fine or crude halftone or want to reproduce a digital drawing, photo engraving can produce it.

Etching
In our studio, we work with zinc plates etched using a salted copper sulfate solution. This solution yields results comparable to nitric acid etching but is far less toxic and does not off gas. We use a variety of mixtures at different strengths to accommodate both hard-ground etching and more delicate aquatints.
Equipment
We are equipped with a brand new 30”×54” Conrad etching press with a steel bed, as well as a smaller custom built press 24”x48”. We also have a large 24”×30” hot plate for inking, grounding, and aquatinting plates, along with an aquatint box that can accommodate plates up to 18”×24”.
Studio Rental
For those interested in renting studio time, a mandatory demo session with a studio instructor is required before booking a reservation. Please email us to set up an appointment.
We have most of what is needed for printing. To see a full list of the items we have available and sell in-house, please refer to our About page.
Studio rental includes access for a 5-hour session. A studio instructor will always be present but is not there to create the work with you. If you would like dedicated time with an experienced studio instructor, an additional fee will apply. If you wish to book the studio for longer than the standard 5-hour session, please reach out via email to discuss details.
As a courtesy, any etchings made during your session may be dried in our print dryer and can be picked up within 2–5 days of printing.
