Course Title: Photo Etching + Chine Colle
Instructor: Joshua Oceguera
Duration: 4 Weeks | Meets once a week on Thursday evenings from 7-10PM
Seats: 5
The upcoming session - TBD
Course Description:
This course introduces students to the fundamentals of photo engraving, a technique that merges photographic imagery with traditional intaglio printmaking. Students will learn to transfer photographic images onto light-sensitive plates, etch them, and create printed impressions. The course also explores chiné collé and image transfer techniques, encouraging students to combine all three methods in the development of their work.
Through in-class demonstrations and hands-on practice, students will be guided through the full process: image preparation, plate exposure, etching and printing using an intaglio press. Special emphasis will be placed on the interplay between image contrast, surface texture, and the unexpected qualities of the chiné collé background.
Open to beginners and those with prior printmaking experience, this course provides a solid technical foundation in photo-based intaglio methods and offers students the opportunity to produce an edition of original photo engraving and chiné collé prints.
By the end of the course, students will complete a series of original prints and gain the confidence to continue exploring etching independently.
No prior experience required.
One 4.5"x6" photosensitive plate is provided to all students.
